BUTUAN CITY – Dave Cea, 22 years old, who bagged the gold medal in Taekwondo, Under 74-Kilograms event for the Philippines against Nitthawee Klompong of Thailand in the 30th Southeast Asian Games, arrives in Butuan City today.
Cea shared his happiness with the result of his first competition in the SEA Games.
“Proud and happy kay first time nako midula sa SEA Games then gold agad yung medal na nakuha ko,” Cea said.
(I’m proud and happy because it was my first time competing in SEA games and I already won the gold medal.)
The support of his family and fellow Filipinos is his inspiration.
Cea started learning Taekwondo as self-defense when he was in first-year high school. According to him, at first, it was not his intention to pursue Taekwondo as his sport.
“…Sabi nga ng papa ko, ano lang po self-defense. Pero nang tumagal nagustuhan ko napo yung sports. Yun po, tuloy-tuloy na po ang hilig ko sa Taekwondo,” he said.
(My father told me to learn Taekwondo for self-defense. But later on, I started liking Taekwondo as sports, then my interest continues.)
He is a graduate in Financial Management, but Cea decided to be a full-time athlete for now.
Cea is preparing for another competition in Lebanon in the year 2020.
