18-YEAR-OLD FEMALE ARRESTED FOR SPREADING FAKE NEWS IN SOCIAL MEDIA


BAYUGAN CITY – Police forces arrested the 18-year-old girl, identified as Arjuna C. Bauro at around 10:00 AM on April 27, for spreading fake news online.


The suspect was nabbed in her residence in Barangay Taglatawan, Bayugan City, for posting false information about a positive case of COVID-19 in the city.


Last week, a 25-year old guy from Bayugan was also arrested for the same case.

Both suspects are facing charges for violating the Republic Act 11496 or Bayanihan to Heal As One Act of 2020.

Meanwhile, the Cyber Space Patrolling of the Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit 13 continues to monitor the social media users spreading fake news.


According to Police Major Renel Serrano, the spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 13, there are 3 cases of spreading false information online recorded in the region.


This reminds the public to be more responsible in posting and sharing information on any social media platforms.
